Learn to Skate and Learn to Play Hockey

LEARN TO SKATE/LEARN TO PLAY (LTS/LTP) 


OFFERED BY SOMERVILLE YOUTH HOCKEY ASSOCIATION (SYHA)


 


LTS/LTP Program teaches ice-skating and the fundamentals of playing hockey for children ages 3 on up.




  • Knowledgeable instructors – includes SYHA coaches and players as well as players from Somerville High School 


  • Weekly skating lessons start kids off with "crate skating" to help them work their way to independent skating.  Classes are each one hour long and divided by age/ability.


  • Once kids have mastered basic skating skills in LTS, they will have the opportunity to skate in the LTP (Learn To Play hockey) class as well, where they can learn the fundamentals of hockey including passing, shooting, puck handling and more!

Schedule:
Learn to Skate:
8-9am: Children ages 3 - 6 years old OR new to skating/needs to use crates


9-10am: Children ages 7 and older OR beginner/intermediate and does not need to use crates


Learn to Play:
10am - 11am:  Beginner hockey learners for all ages
11am - 12pm:  Clinic and scrimmage for Intermediate hockey learners and Advanced LTP
All LTS/LTP skaters should plan to attend either the 8am or 9amLTS class based on their age/ability.  Children in the 9am LTS class are welcome to remain and participate in the 10am LTP class.  As children develop proficiency in their hockey skills, they will be invited to attend the 11am class as well.  


If you are not sure which LTS class your child should attend or if your child is skating proficiently enough to attend the 10am LTP class, please consult with one of the LTS/LTP coaches.  They would be happy to assess your child and make sure he or she is in the right class.  


 




Dates and Tuition:


Full LTS/LTP Season (10/29/22 - 3/4/23) -- $175.  


Half LTS/LTP Season (1/7 - 3/4/23) -- $100. 


 




Children may join anytime during the season, and late registrations will be prorated. Financial assistance is available.  Hockey equipment available for borrowing until we run out. All children are welcome!
